Rise of the Phablets

No I didn’t make any of that up. The rise of the Phablets is upon us, so why don’t we take a closer look. 

Clearly the first benefit is that you have the convenience of a smartphone combined with the large screen of a tablet.
The average smartphone screen is usually rather unsatisfying but we still want something more portable than a tablet, right?

However, although the idea of mixing portability with the big screen experience sounds lovely. In reality Phablets are two-hand devices – this may displease the smooth and experienced single hand user.
But of course if you were planning to buy a tablet, purchasing a Phablet may be a cheaper option AND of course the multi-functional device will double up as your brand new smartphone too.

Lets take a look at a live one. Introducing the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Although the Galaxy Note 3 has a similarity in design to the Galaxy phones, Samsung have tried to give the Note 3 a more premium look. Rather than the usual glossy plastic back used, the Galaxy Note 3 features a leather-look back.

Samsung have combined the leather back with chromed and ridged plastic edges, to finish off the look.

Note, the ‘tried’. Arguably a ‘fake’ leather look is the opposite to premium.

However, I think it’s down to personal taste. I’d rather have a fake leather back or a glossy plastic back than shiny glass, far too fragile!

In fact the Note 3 is definitely far from fragile. Samsung made sure their phablet was solidly built and shows no weakness. Weighing in at 168 grams – around the same weight of 67 pennies, the Note 3 keeps it’s elegance through it’s lightweight feel.

The front of the device is dominated by a magnificent, bright and colourful large 5.7in screen. Equipped with full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, visually everything is pin sharp, looks like it’s here you’re getting your premium quality.

However you’re paying a premium price too.  At 594.99, the Galaxy Note 3 is quite pricey but as quoted by the Guardian, ‘If you’re after a phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the best one available right now‘
