Blackberry’s BBM update: More secure than ever before

Blackberry has enhanced the privacy and control features of it’s messaging app BBM for users on Android, iOS and Blackberry devices. Two key updates include ‘Retract‘ and ‘Timer‘. With Retract, you’ll now be able to delete sent messages from the recipients device, giving you full ownership over what you share through BBM – even after it leaves your phone. And with Timer, you can now control how long your contacts can view shared messages, pictures or location information, features that were previously only available to those with a BBM subscription.

“Building on the renowned immediacy, reliability and security inherent to BBM, the new release provides unmatched level of privacy and control to BBM users without any subscription fees,” – Matthew Talbot, SVP, BBM.

In addition to Retract and Timer, you’ll also be able to access Private Chat and Edit features. Allowing you to remove names and avatars from the chat window and edit messages you’ve sent to a contact. Finally, BBM users with Android, iOS and Blackberry 10  devices can also forward messages from one to chat to another, and enjoy general performance improvements and bug fixes. While the following updates are dependent on your operating system:

– On iOS: Simply don’t renew your subscription, and it will cancel automatically.

– On Android: Access the Google Play Store, tap on the menu button in the top left, access My Account, go to Subscriptions, and cancel.

– BlackBerry 10: Access BlackBerry World, go to my world, access Subscriptions, and cancel.
