Huawei unveils 2016 flapship P9

The P9 is the latest flagship smartphone from the Chinese firm, Huawei. Featuring rounded corners, an aerospace-class aluminium uni-body and antenna bands on the rear, the P9 offers a premium look. With a 5.2″ Full HD display and a super slim 6.95mm body, thinner than the iPhone 6S and the Galaxy S7, the P9 is easy to hold and allows for one handed use. The P9 also features a microSD card slot that allows you to build on the 32GB of internal storage, by up to 128GB.

The colour options for the different networks include:

  • EE – Titanium Grey
  • O2 – Titanium Grey
  • Vodafone – Mystic Silver, Titanium Grey/Quartz Grey in May

Huawei recently joined forces with Leica, a German optics enterprise, renowned for it’s high-quality lightweight rangefinder cameras. Working together with Leica on the camera software and hardware of the P9, the new device has two rear cameras that both feature 12MP lenses that are ‘Leica certified’. The lenses boast 12  million megapixels – like the single sensors on Apple’s iPhone 6S and Samsung’s Galaxy S7. However, one of the P9’s rear camera’s is solely monochrome. You can opt to use just the B&W camera or use both cameras in unison.

According to Huawei, the addition of data collected from the B&W camera means photo brightness can be boosted by 200% and contract by 50% over a standard, single RGB snapper.

Further camera features include a built-in dual core ISP, professional DSP and the depth measurement ISP for improved focusing, speeds and processing. You can also take advantage of a choice of film modes, functions and shooting modes for professional photographic effects. Finally, the front camera of the P9 is 8 megapixels.

Further features include a fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking and adding security. Superior connectivity with Wi-Fi+ 2.0, automatically connecting you to the strongest available network, and ranking hotspots, to prioritise the best connection.
