Apple iPhone X/8/8+ fast charger – worth the investment?
The Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are the first devices to support quick charging – offering up to 50% of juice in just 30 minutes. Despite the new devices being capable of quick charging, the feature will not work with the included standard Lightning cable and iPhone charger. To take advantage, you’ll need to purchase additional accessories that are compatible with USB Type-C charging, setting you back £74 (£25 for the adaptor cable and from £49 for the USB-C charger). A catch Apple has been criticised heavily for. Is it worth it?
Despite the significant amount, tests by 9to5mac do support Apple’s claims of up to 50% charge in 30 minutes – in fact results exceed Apple’s claims by 6%. Saving you time and stress when in a hurry. Clearly the difference between the Apple (5W) charger, included with your new iPhone X, 8 or 8 Plus is offering no where near as much power as the available 29W fast charger. Third party options include the Anker (ships from the U.S.) and Aukey (available in the UK), offering a slightly lower price tag, although they will not include support from Apple if you have an issue. When purchasing any third-party accessory, always look for the MFi logo on their packaging to avoid counterfeit or uncertified products that could damage your device.
Beyond fast charging, Apple has now released the iOS 11.2 update which has enabled faster wireless charging when paired with the Belkin Boost Up Wireless Charging Pad or Mophie Wireless Charging Base, both £54.95 each. Although the accessories are expensive, your iPhone is a tool you use on a daily basis and there’s no doubt these accessories will make your life easier.
