Upcoming handsets in 2016
1) Apple iPhone 7
Assuming Apple follows it’s usual schedule, it’s unlikely the iPhone 7 will be released before September time next year, however that hasn’t stopped the rumours piling in. Whispers include an edge-to-edge screen that will potentially sport a 4K display like Sony’s recent model – the Xperia Z5 Premium, and waterproofing for better durability. It’s also expected that an iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be released, offering Apple fans a choice between a smaller and larger iPhone – while a slim headphone plug patent taken out by Apple suggests the body will be thinner than ever before by cutting down the connector. Finally, rumours suggest the iPhone 7 may have the home screen button removed entirely, focusing solely on touch and 3D capabilities.
2) HTC One M10
Rumoured to be released around March next year, big things are expected from the HTC M10, particularly due to the disappointing performance of the One M9 in the global market. Apparently, the device will feature a 6″ display, a faster Snapdragon 820 processor, bigger 3,500 mAh battery and 4GB of ram. While further spec rumours include a 27MP camera.
3) LG G5
The LG G5 is expected to be released early next year, around February/March. Rumour has it, LG will be replacing the leather and plastic design on previous models for an all metal body. Further design rumours include a fingerprint sensor and an edge-to-edge display. While spec improvement whispers suspect an improved camera and faster processor – the Snapdragon 820 chipset.
4) Samsung Galaxy S7
Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S7 around February time next year. The new model is rumoured to be similar in design to Samsung’s current flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, with a curved screen. However, the upcoming model is also rumoured to feature a 3D-touch style screen that is pressure sensitive.
5) Sony Xperia Z6
Finally, the Sony Xperia Z6 is expected to be released in the second half of next year, sometime between June and September, sporting a variety of colours including black, blue, chrome, gold, green, pink, yellow and white. Rumoured specs include a 4K display, fingerprint scanner, retina eye scanner, wireless charging and a whopping 4GB of RAM.
Overall, you can expect the biggest mobile brands to bring you curved designs, edge-to-edge screens, 3D technology, wireless charging, fingerprint sensors and faster processors in the new year.
