5 things you may not know you can do with Apple iOS 12

Apple has introduced an app called 'Measure'. Using augmented reality technology, Measure gives you the ability to accurately measure objects or walls around you. Simply place the object in the camera frame, tap and drag out a line, and the app will measure it.

Siri not only provides information from language translations to the latest game scores, but the ability to create your own custom demand shortcuts. For example "Hey Siri, let's go on a bike ride" could bring up the weather, directions on a map and a set reminder to pack your helmet. This is all manageable from Settings > Siri & Search. 

iOS 12 brings 'Screen Time', allowing you to see how much time you've spent on your phone and a breakdown of how this time is spent across individual apps. Whether you want to monitor your own downtime, limit your employee's social media usage on company devices or manage distractions when it's homework time for your children, screen time offers a basic and free (!) version of mobile device management. To configure screen time, head to Settings > Screen Time and tap the graph. There, you can see your usage, set limits for your Most Used apps, and see how many times a device was picked up or received a notification.

If you turned on Share Across Devices, you can view overall usage across devices that are signed in with your Apple ID and password.

Just as Screen Time gives you more insight into how you use your devices, Instant Tuning gives you new ways to reduce interruptions throughout your day. You can manage your notifications in real-time from the Lock screen or Notification centre by swiping left over an alert or group of alerts and tapping 'manage'. From here, you can either choose to 'deliver quietly' - removing previews, sounds or banners and badges, or switch off the notifications altogether.

You can also set up location-based alerts, for example, you might get a reminder to call someone when you get to a specific place or when you leave for your next location. Better yet, Do Not Disturb has been updated so that you can choose to turn it on for your afternoon meeting and it will automatically turn off once your event ends or you move location.
